What is an Original?
An 'original' refers to a one-of-a-kind creation. Whether it be a watercolor, oil painting, ink and/or
wash drawing, etc. This is the actual 'original' artwork created by the artist's own hand.
What is an Offset Lithographic Reproduction?
An Offset Lithographic Reproduction is created by a photo mechanical process know as four color separation. Basically, the image is broken down into the four colors of cyan, magenta, yellow and black which is then printed on a large offset press. The color is broken down and printed in what is known as halftone, or very tiny dots of the four colors. When combined in various amounts these colors can reproduce a very large portion of colors in the visable spectrum and create a very life like reproduction of the original painting. The image is transfered from the four color printing plates to rubber blankets and finally to the paper on which it is printed. Most magazines, posters, and other publications use this time tested and proven method to print large numbered editions. For years, this was the only option for artists wishing to get high quality reproductions of their paintings.
What is a Giclée Reproduction?
A Giclée reproduction is also printed in the four basic colors of cyan, magenta, yellow and black, but is done so on a high quality ink jet printer. Giclée actually means "spray of ink". With today's modern technology and archival pigmented inks, Giclée reproductions, if properly printed will outlast most other types of printing for light fastness. My Giclée prints are produced in my own studio with the highest quality pigmented inks which are rated light fast for 200 plus years when behind glass and kept out of constant exposure to direct sunlight. The paper and inks are also water resistant assuring visual pleasure now and for generations to come.
